TWFG says NO to fascination on loans
The TertiaryWomen’s concentration organisation (TWFG) believes that fascination onstudent loans will make Tertiary Education elitist. Theircomment comes after ACT Party MP John Banks’ voiced onSaturday he would similar to to reintroduce fascination onloans.
“Putting fascination back on loans is dangerous.Many students have crippling debt that impacts on thedecisions they make after that on in life – and that iscurrently without interest” says National Women’s RightsOfficer Ta’ase Vaoga.
“Mr Banks evidently has no ideaabout the actual effect a tyro loan can have on anindividual’s life. The who, different Mr Banks, did nothave the choice of giveaway tertiary education, are oftenprevented from starting families, shopping initial homes andsaving allowance due to their tyro debt.” addsVaoga.
“Women will be foul disadvantaged by thismove as they already take longer pay off their loans, beingmore expected to stay home for durations of time to take caring ofchildren and consequence reduction on median compared with their malecounterparts” Vaoga continues.
Currently the Governmentviews tyro loans as a liability. However, TWFG is of theopinion that tyro loans should be noticed as aninvestment.
“Lending to students is an investment in theeconomic future of the country. We are investing in thefuture of the workforce. The accessibility of loans and thusaccess to aloft preparation results in a happier moreproductive workforce contributing economically to society”Vaoga concludes.
